Santal

Introduction

En latin : Santalum Album (Santalaceae)

Le santal, ou santal blanc, est un arbre tropical mesurant entre 4 et 9 mètres de haut. On en retrouve en Inde et au Nord de l'Australie dans les forêts sèches. 
Les parties utilisées du santal sont le bois et avant tout l'huile essentielle qui est obtenue par distillation à la vapeur du bois.

Toxicité et effets secondaires

  • Un excès d'huile essentielle de santal est susceptible d'entraîner l'apparition d'une sensation de chaleur au niveau de l'épigastre associée à une soif plus ou moins vive et parfois même des nausées
