A group of cells scattered throughout the body, particularly in the liver (Kupffer cells), lymphatics, bone marrow, spleen, and other areas, organized in a network, hence the term reticulo, reticular.
This system has various functions including the production of blood elements, the destruction of bodies considered foreign, immunity, etc.
