Definition
The condyle is the articular end (junction of bony parts, most often mobile with each other) with a rounded and protruding shape, which allows the bone to adapt generally to a glenoid cavity, which corresponds to the end of a bone within which another bone will articulate.
Anatomy
The most famous example of condyle is that of thehip jointBetween the head of the femur located at the end of this bone, and the glenoid cavity of the pelvis (which is located more precisely in theos iliac). Another example of a condyle is the joint located at the base of the skull, at the level occipital, on each side of the occipital hole formed by the articulation of theatlas (first cervical vertebra) supporting the lower bony part of theocciput (base of the skull). The mandibular condyles are formed by the bony end of each lower jaw. They are vertical in shape and articulate on each side of the skull.
