Primary achalasia is an esophageal motility disorder characterized by difficulty emptying the esophagus resulting from a lack of peristalsis, associated to degeneration of the local nervous system of the esophageal wall.

Primary achalasia is a rare pathology, sometimes included in triple A syndrome:
- achalasia (in English achalasia).
- Alacrima.
- Adrenal insufficiency or adrenal insufficiency following resistance toACTH.
