Temporary loss of memory and consciousness.
It is classified as simple or complex, depending on whether or not it is accompanied by neurological signs.
It can be caused by intoxication, excessive fatigue or a temporary disorder due to poor blood flow to the brain.
It is also a minor manifestation of generalized epilepsy (or petit mal) which consists of a brief interruption of consciousness and all activity, accompanied by pallor, fixed gaze, myoclonus (sudden and involuntary muscle contractions) and sometimes complete amnesia (reduction or even total loss of memory).
