Skin abrasion

Definition

Definition

Skin abrasion is the wearing away of the skin or mucous membrane by friction, resulting in the loss of a more or less thick fragment of skin or mucous membrane.

Generalities

Abrasion is most often the result of a fall on the elbows or knees, for example, very often in children.

The abrasion of a mucous is the result of scraping the inside of a hollow organ such as the mouth, among others. Thus, the collection of buccal cells from the inside of the cheek results in a slight abrasion (not visible to the naked eye) of the latter.
