Definition
Fibrin is a blood plasma protein produced by the liver and playing a key role in blood clotting.
Generalities
Fibrin is obtained through the fibrinogen, which is also a protein made by the liver and which is part of a cascade constituting the complicated mechanism of blood clotting.
La thrombin, another element involved in blood clotting, is a blood protein capable of activating fibrin.
When thrombin has activated fibrinogen, it then transforms into fibrin, which will then polymerize, that is to say, carry out the joining of numerous monomers (pieces), and become insoluble because it has acquired stabilization thanks to the intervention of another factor (the factor XIII).
From there, a set of proteins is brought together, forming a sort of plug whose purpose is to stop the bleeding: this is the sealing of the wound.
