Definition
Acariasis is a disease caused by acari (small parasites of the order Acari ), which are tiny arachnids with eight legs (ticks, chiggers). Some are responsible for dust allergies.
Classification
Chiggers and scabies mites are among the dust mites. Everyone is familiar with house dust allergies caused by fungal diseases , among others.
Allergens most often inhaled throughout the year are the cause of rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal passages) and asthma.
The mites most often responsible for allergies are:
- Dermatophagoids farinae.
- Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus.
- Panonychus ulmi in apple growers sometimes also causes rhinitis-like conditions.
- Other species of mites are also allergenic, such as Glycyphagus glycyphagidae and tyrophagus putrescentiae, which are found in the dust of certain particularly humid houses or in moldy hay.
- Acarus siro, among cheese professionals, is responsible for certain allergy-like pathologies.

Symptoms of acariasis are:
- The bite mite only causes discomfort.
- The presence of the parasite in the skin, or sometimes on it, is likely to transmit certain diseases, or cause respiratory allergies.
Epidemiology
Mites belong to the order of arachnids and have a body, most often disc-shaped, globular and without a clear separation between the abdomen and the cephalothorax (head and thorax).
To feed, mites need human blood and skin flakes (tiny flakes of skin that detach) to develop. This is why they bite humans and many domestic wild mammals.
